Honor fans have a new 5.5-inch phablet, which they can add to their wishlist – Say hi to the Honor 5A. As the name suggests, the Honor 5A is the successor of the yesteryear Honor 4A. Currently, Honor 5A is an affordable smartphone in Honor lineup of devices that was launched in China just a couple of hours ago. Here’s what you need to know regarding specs, pricing and availability.
The Honor 5A has an elegantly designed metal frame running around the device that is there to lend a premium feel in the hand. The rear has got classic British style 3D textures, which seems like a bonus. It has got a 5.5-inch IPS HD (267ppi, 74.5% screen-to-body ratio, the Contrast ratio up to 1000:1) fully laminated display with 178-degree viewing angle and is also protected by Al-Si depth tempered glass, which reinforced more than three times of ordinary soda-lime glass, according to the company. Powering the Honor 5A is a Snapdragon 617 processor with Adreno 405 GPU or Kirin 620 processor with Mali 450 GPU. The model availability varies by region. The device also boasts a 2GB RAM and 16GB of onboard storage, which is expandable via a microSD card slot up to 128GB. The company has worked around the audio of the device. As a result, we have got BOX+ integrated sound chamber for better treble and deeper bass. The SWS surround support will give you immersive audio experience when you listen to music.

The Honor 5A sports a 13-megapixel primary camera with f/2.0 aperture and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfie lovers. The device runs Emotion UI 4.1 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with special camera software features like professional camera mode, food mode, time-lapse photography, beauty mode, intelligent identification among others. The 4G VoLTE compatible handset will offer dual-SIM support and house a 3100mAh(typical)/3000mAh (min) battery. With moderate usage, customers can expect to get up to 42 hours of usage time. In addition, the super saving mode will provide up to 7 days of battery life. The new Honor handset measures 154.3 x77.1 x 8.45 mm and weighs in at 168 grams.
Pricing & Availability:
The 3G-only version of Honor 5A costs 699 Yuan (US $105) in China, while the 4G LTE model will be a bit more expensive at 799 Yuan (US $120). The smartphone will retail in several color options, including White, Black, Blue and Gold. It will be available for pre-order on online retailer Vmall, and will go on sale in China starting from June 17th. The Huawei backed Honor didn’t say if the new smartphone will be released outside of its home country or not. Although, we assume that this could happen later this year.
While the Honor 5A isn’t going to blow your mind with top-notch performance, it still offers pretty good hardware for the price you are paying. The design of the Honor 5A isn’t too shabby, either.
